PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
PRP is a solution separated from your own blood that contains a higher concentration of platelets suspended in a small amount of plasma. These platelets release signaling molecules we refer to as “Growth Factors”, which stimulate desired biological effects in the skin. There are now numerous areas of dermatology and aesthetic medicine where PRP can be applied for desired effects with safe administration.
A) Hair Loss, most commonly Androgenetic Alopecia
Hairs supported by PRP treatments stay in their growth phase for longer, with increased density, and with superior blood supply. PRP supports the signals that are required for natural, healthy hair growth while overcoming the hormonal and genetic signals that drive the hair loss.
Further studies examining PRP as supportive therapy for other forms of hair loss such as lichen planopilaris are now emerging.
To soften lines PRP goes to work on the dermis specifically. The growth factors emitted by platelets in PRP work to boost collagen production while clearing areas in the dermis where photodamage has arisen, increasing the organization and quality of collagen.
C)Post-Ablative Laser Resurfacing
PRP supports the epidermis in programming the repair process when applied immediately following Ablative Laser Resurfacing (Dual Mode at Visage Clinic). Specific growth factors in PRP help the keratinocytes (skin warriors) in finding their way to effectively move and multiply in a dance of expedited wound healing.
D)Under Eye Darkening
PRP can work to promote thickening of the skin to create a healthy skin barrier that masks underlying muscle fibers and blood vessels that result in the undereye dark circles that leave us feeling tired and worn.
What to expect when coming for my PRP treatments:
1.Our clinic nurse or dermatologist will discuss the procedure with you to ensure you are a good candidate for the treatment.
2.We want you feel well and ready for the treatment by having adequate nutrition and hydration the day you arrive.
3.You will start by having a blood sample taken by your medical professional.
4.The blood sample will then be placed into a centrifuge to separate out the therapeutic growth factors in your very own PRP. You will get a chance to relax for 10-15 minutes during this process.
5. The desired treatment area on your skin will be cleaned and prepped.
6. The treatment will be administered with clean technique by your practitioner while you relax.
